Another Day in The Life Of Me

so as if it wasn't a blur o f a year already, i just celebrated my little one's first birthday. he was just born sheesh. we sang and he demolished his cake and i took tons of pictures and video. i can't wait to see the pics.  at least 50.  I have them on my computer but i haven't just sat back and gone through them yet.
I love my babies, they grow up so fast.  i always knew i'd love kids and love being a dad, i had no idea it would bite me so hard.  i wrote about what it would be like to have kids before and this was years before i'd ever actually had the chance to have them. I just wrote what i imagined it would feel like....

Little Precious One

Little precious one
So full of love
You bring joy into my life
So tiny and innocent
You haven't been tainted by the cruelty of the world
I will protect you from harm
I will guide you as you grow
I will love you till the day I die
My little precious one

Little precious one
I see me in you
I see a future molded by your mind
A new world built by your imagination
Lives saved by your hands
You are my hopes and dreams
You are my doctor, my lawyer, my new world leader
You are my little precious one

Little precious one
You make me proud to be your parent
From the joy of you first crying sounds, to
The beauty of your first steps
My heart leaps when you call out to me
I love the way you run to me
I love the joy of holding you in my arms
I love you just for being you
My little precious one

Little precious one
I give to you all that I am
You are my inspiration
I live that you may have a better life
My world would not be the same without you
You give me hope for tomorrow
you give me a reason to live
You give me love unconditionally
My beautiful little precious one

If i had known that what i wrote about would only be a fraction of the joy i'd feel, i probably would have been looking to make babies way sooner.  but everything happens for a reason and in its own time.  i've learned not to rush things to be patient and wait for the good things to come. that way when they do come you'll be better able and better prepared to accept and enjoy them. then you can truly understand the feeling behind a piece like this...

A Wonderful Place

Come listen let me tell you of this place
that seems so far away
Where lady luck has made her home and
all the cupids' play
Where father time has deemed worthy
to be free from the worries of age
Where love, joy and happiness replace
any sense of rage.
Come listen let me tell you of this place
that some will never see.
Where all the beauty and wonders of life
are allowed to roam free.
Where dreams appear to come true
right before your eyes.
Where no one has ever seen a rain cloud
hovering in the sky.
Come listen let me tell you of this place
that I found a love so true.
This place of wonder I speak so fondly of
I found when I found you.

it's one of those things you dream about and wonder if it really exists. the only way to know is to be patient. because nothing is worse then finding that feeling and not being able to enjoy it completely. to have it dangled at your finger tips, just out of your reach.  its a hard lesson to learn and one i hope you never have to endure.  be patient, wait for it, and be ready to accept it if ever you find that Wonderful Place. it's a rare thing to find.

i leave you with this small thought to chew on....

Life Moving Still

In the midst of the chaos
That thing we call life
Constant battles against strife
Surviving at all costs
By any means available
We must preserve what we have
Precious little time, never slowing always going
Everything is in a continuous flow
So much hard work, so little to show
Pressures building everyday
No time to wait always moving on
Trying to exist in the land of the strong
Choices to be made, if we're wrong penalties to pay
Walking a fine line we dare not stray far
Eyes upon us, never ending surveillance
Our lives are ours but for only so short a time
The way things come back on us so bizarre
Waiting for that wish we made upon that shooting star

welcome to my mind, its a strange place to be
but at least you can leave when you want to

Happy New Year!

Another year gone.
A new year is here.
2007 went out with a bang.
2008 came in with a cheer.

Yes it's true we have left another year behind us.  I didn't make any new year's resolutions this year.  my reason, because i made one 2 years ago not to make anymore resolutions.  i figured why waist the year trying to live up to a promise i made to myself, when i can just live life and take the challenges as they come.
of course the most popular of resolutions is to lose weight and/or get in shape.  i avoided this resolution by simply starting my journey to get in shape, long before the new year began.
back in november of last year, in stead of a tattoo i chose to get a gym membership.  now i must admit that i'm sticking to going to the gym a lot better then i'm remembering to update this blog.  but as with all new things, it takes time to work into the routine.  i want to get better at this because i am hoping it will encourage me to write more.  the more i write about what i've already written, the more i'll want to write something new and share it.  luckily i found my muse and it's not so much about having the desire to write as it is finding the time to wrap my mind around what it is i want to write.
I was nosing around some of my earlier writings and i amaze myself at how profound some of my writings are.  i've always tried to write "in the moment"  so that the poem would be universal and timeless.  so now when i go back and read some of them, i can usually find something that pertains to my life even today.  sometimes it makes no sense and has nothing to do with nothing.  i get in these moods where i just write about the weirdest things.  usually i get on a role and end up writing 2 or 3 in a day that are on the same topic which forces me to write something out of the box that is as far away from the topic of the day as possible.
while digging through volume 2 i found some interesting things that popped out at me.  so i thought i'd share with you...

This Boy And Girl

Irreparable damage is done.
The end was here before we begun.
Slim is the chance to proceed.
Happiness held hostage till the hearts are freed.
Emotions run high, senses run wild.
Gone is the unconditional love found in a child.
We try hard we fail.
No hope to prevail.
Scared into silence and solitude.
Warm and loving embraces replaced with feuds.
Pain and anger rule the day.
A constant battle to get away.
Is there a way to make it right.
Is there a reason to stay and fight.
Is there a hope left in the world.
Is there an answer for this boy and girl.

I vaguely remember writing this a long, long time ago.  funny how even though i wrote it, i can gleam so many different meanings from it.  its my hope that one day, someone will get excited about my blog and actually give me their thoughts on the different poems i post here.  well i guess that would require someone actually knowing this blog is here.  really now, what's the point in keeping a blog and not telling anyone about it.  sounds just like me.  i want to be a writer and yet i lack the nerve to promote myself.
self psychoanalysis is complete, moving on now.

So in my travels through my small collection of poems, i found another one that jumped out at me.  its amazing what you find when you're not really looking.  you scroll and scroll and then poof, it just calls your attention.
i have learned a lot about myself over the past few months.  it was an interesting year now that i look back on it.  lots of ups and downs.  lots of discoveries and self revelations.  so when i came across this it just seemed to fit my mind set.  kind of like, i know who i am, and i know whats inside me and who i can be kind of thing.  so i share now...

Mind Body And Soul

Mind.
In my dreams I see you.  You stop my heart.
I feel drawn to your loving face.
An ever, glowing ember of happiness.
My mind begins to race.

Body.
In my fantasies I hear you.  You take my breath.
I'm entranced by the taste of your kiss.
An all consuming realm of passion.
My body is filled with bliss.

Soul.
In my desires I feel you.  You blow my mind.
I'm melted by, the warmth of your love.
An endless flow of tenderness.
My soul shall never get enough.

I am yours mind, body and soul.

Honestly though, not everything i write is so melodramatic.  okay i lied, most of it is, only because i guess my brain works that way.  i don't always intend for it to come out like that (truth) but in reality, i don't always even know what it is i'm writing until i'm done.   i never usually have a set plan as to how a particular piece is going to go.  sometimes i don't even have an idea how to start it.  i usually end up writing 1 or two lines or a paragraph or 2 and then having to go back and create a beginning.
another problem i have with writing is knowing when to stop.  i have some poems that run on and on for ever it seems.  i'll share with you the Shortest Poem i've written to date. and i'll share the Longest Poem i've written to date.  okay approximately the longest.  i've never actually gone through and counted the words to be able to make a definitive choice, but i believe(no pun intended) this to be the longest.  i know its the shortest.
So i've started the year off with what i hope will be a positive note.  i promise to make a concerted effort to update this thing at the very least once a month.  if i am really adventurous i'll do it once a week.  don't hold me to the weekly blog, but i will make the effort.  i'd also like to get back to writing a poem a month.  maybe in the future all of my avid readers will be able to suggest a topic and i could create something to fit their needs.  i've done that before also. someone asked me to write a poem for their family reunion flyer...

Our Family Our Strength

When the good times fade and the hard times roll in.
We search day and night for someone to call friend.
Someone who will be there through thick and thin.
Our search always ends where our family begins.
Our family our strength that helps us stand tall.
A foundation we depend on to steady us all.
We are all individuals but together we are one.
The strength we gain from unity can never be outdone.
Our family gives us reason to let our pride show.
Through love and endurance we continue to grow.
Let the love we have for each other shine forever more.
Let our unity and strength grow like never before.
Family is the one thing no one should be without.
Coming together in times of need is what family is all about.
We gather to give thanks for the family we posses.
For the opportunity to give thanks, our family is truly blessed.
As we come together once more, let us realize.
No matter what we obtain in life, family is life's greatest prize.

It reminds me that people come and go. situations come and go. problems come and go. but the people we grew up with. the ones who were there with us from the beginning are the ones we should cherish the most. I love you mom. had to throw that in there.  i heard it went well and the family reunion was a hit and the flyer with the poem was a blast.  i am always touched and honored when someone wants to use one of my poems for any purpose.  it's great to be noticed and to know that someone else enjoys reading me.  great inspiration to keep writing.
okay so this brings to an end my first update of the year.  if the year goes great then i'll be back sooner then i think and i'll slide into a routine and it wont feel so strange.  i'll leave you with one last shot from my trip down memory lane.  just so i can feel like this update has the most poems in it to date. One last poem for the road.  i leave you now with great expectations for my return.
    Happy new year
